COMMANDER
This paperweight is a limited edition for
the exhibition “Engraving the World” in Hong
Kong. It is made of a crystal glass semisphere upon
a silver plate which represents the Gemini motif
from Coronelli Celestial Globe in a delicate
red colour, symbolic of happiness in Chinese culture.
The original Coronelli Terrestrial
and Celestial Globes are treasures of the art of
cartography and count as the largest and most beautiful ancient
globes. Designed by the famous Venetian cosmographer
Vincenzo Coronelli (1650–1718), they were made
to glorify Louis XIV, the Sun King, showing the terrestrial
world as it was known in the late 17th century and the
position of the constellations at the time of Louis
XIV’s
birth, on 5 September 1638.
Ce presse-papier, produit en édition
limitée à l’occasion de l’exposition « Engraving
the World » à Hong Kong , se compose d’une
demi-sphère en cristal montée sur une plaque d’argent
qui reproduit le motif des Gémeaux du Globe Céleste
de Coronelli dans un coloris rouge délicat propre à la
culture chinoise et symbole de bonheur.
Les globes originaux,
véritables trésors de l'art cartographique,
figurent parmi les plus grands et les plus beaux
globes anciens jamais réalisés. Signés
par le célèbre cosmographe vénitien
Vincenzo Coronelli (1650–1718) et consacrés à la
gloire du Roi-Soleil, le Globe terrestre présente
l'état des connaissances géographiques à la
fin du XVIIe siècle et le Globe céleste, la
position des constellations à la naissance
de Louis XIV, le 5 septembre 1638.
